Lilburn Hill Farm Long Barrow
Although the Milfield Plain monuments are later Neolithic, entrance to them from the south is introduced by an earlier cairn at Lilburn Hill Farm, on a hill slope. The site was found when in 1883 a field was being prepared for turnips. A large stone was broken up and fragments of bone were found lying around. A grave was found 2.97m from north to south with two layers containing cremations. The upper one had pits with burnt bone. Below this were seven shallow depressions with little pieces of whinstone (dolerite) on each one. The cremated remains included teeth and bits of jaw.
